Career Opportunity – Video Production Internship (Communications Department)

The American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota is looking for a video production intern who has a passion for impactful storytelling and is looking for a meaningful opportunity in an organization that makes a profound difference in the lives of our clients and in our communities. Working alongside the digital communications associate, the intern will be responsible for planning, producing, and editing documentary-style videos with impactful storytelling for web and social media platforms. 

  • Create 4+ short-form documentary-style videos focusing on current and former board members, their advocacy, and connection to the ACLU of Minnesota. The preferred timeline is over an approximately 4-month period with videos formatted for both web, social media platforms, and event spaces. The overall timeline will be determined by the intern in collaboration with the communications department. 
  • Plan preproduction by outlining story arcs in written format for discussion with the communications team and digital associate. 
  • Conduct on-site and off-site video shoots with current and former board members. (Equipment will be provided). 
  • Edit videos in Adobe Premiere.  
  • Assist communications department with additional tasks as needed depending on availability.
  • Participate in department meetings as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 2+ years of experience with smaller-scale productions and post-production software.   
    • Experience can include student projects, personal projects, freelance work, or studio/agency work.  We are interested in seeing your best work! 
  • Knowledge of audio export presets and standard aspect ratios for web, social media, and public screenings. 
  • Proficient with Adobe Premiere. After Effects experience is a plus.  
  • General understanding of Canon DSLR cameras, audio equipment, and lighting. 
  • Availability to direct video shoots off-site and on-site in our office. 
  • Experience with graphics and color grading a plus, but not a requirement. 
  • Strong storytelling skills and understanding of branding conventions. 
  • Open to receiving and incorporating feedback. 
  • Ability to work independently, establish timelines with the communications team, and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to lift twenty pounds. 
  • Access to a vehicle. 

DETAILS 

  • The intern will receive a stipend of $1000. 
  • Minimum of ten hours weekly with flexible scheduling for 4 months during Spring, Summer, or Fall semesters. The timeline is flexible for both students and non-students. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The ACLU-MN is headquartered in Minneapolis under a hybrid work model, though the internship will require on-site and off-site video shoots, as well as some time in the office.

Juniors and seniors currently enrolled in a bachelor's program are encouraged to apply, however, enrollment in college is not a requirement.
