As a Community Organizer and Communications Intern dedicated to immigrant rights, you will play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and well-being of immigrants in the community. You will work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, engage directly with immigrant populations, and implement strategies to promote inclusivity, justice, and empowerment.
Projects and Responsibilities
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with immigrant communities, grassroots organizations, and key stakeholders.
- Conduct public event programs to connect with individuals and families affected by immigration policies.
Education and Outreach:
- Create and provide educational resources on immigration policies, rights, and available support services.
- Conduct workshops and create social media content to empower community members with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities.
- Utilize various social media platforms to disseminate information and raise awareness.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Do community outreach to analyze what social media tools are most effective and prominent in impacted communities.
- Collect and analyze data related to immigration trends in social media use, including Facebook and WhatsApp.
- Use data to inform strategies, measure impact, and adapt initiatives for maximum effectiveness.
Networking and Partnerships:
- Establish connections with other community groups to share and distribute new created content.
Interns may gain experience with:
- Drafting, editing, and proofreading communications materials.
- Learning about the American immigration system and its impact locally.
- Learning about the ACLU-MN and its methods for systemic change.
- Creating data analysis for reports, stories, and action alerts.
- Helping create print and digital media including Spanish content.
- Connecting to new and existing allies and networks.
- Assisting with coverage during organization events.
- Taking and editing photos and videos.
This internship will be a good fit for someone who:

- Is familiar with using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, etc.)

- Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and other media software.
- Time commitment of 10 to 15 hours a week.
Requirements:
- Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken).
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to independently travel to clinics and community meetings.
